LONG-TIME HITMEN ACE JIMMY WAGNER BECOMES FIRST PITCHER IN SIMBL HISTORY WITH 4000 CAREER STRIKEOUTS

Chicago Hitmen teammates lineup to congratulate long-time Hitmen ace Jimmy Wagner (above right) after the 10-time All-Star and former #1 overall pick of the 2024 SIMBL Draft became the first pitcher in the league's 42-year history to strikeout 4000 career batters in 2046 SIM 16.

Chicago's Jimmy Wagner made more SIMBL history in 2046 SIM 16 when he recorded his 4000th career strikeout to add to his career lead as the SIMBL all-time strikeout king.

The 43 year-old right-hander who is in his 22nd season, all with the Hitmen, is the first and only pitcher in the SIMBL's 42-season history to amass 4000 Ks.

Wagner was the #1 overall pick in the 2024 SIMBL Draft by long-time and current Hitmen GM John Bowden.  He is a ten-time All-Star and, with SIMBL Hall Of Famers Alan Alexander Anderson and Bobby Grimes, is the only pitcher to have 300 career wins in SIMBL history.  Wagner's 329 career wins are currently second all-time in SIMBL history to Anderson's 335.

Only 11 pitchers in SIMBL history have 3000 career strikeouts while 24 have 2500 career sit downs.

"Camper" has been relegated mostly to bullpen duty this season which looks to be his final season in an illustrious and Hall Of Fame-bound career.

LANCE'S LISTS: A LOOK AT TEAM RECORDS ONE SEASON AGO AT THE BREAK 2045-2046

Roosters, AC Kansas City, Mavericks Vastly Improved From Last Season

Veteran pitcher Tommy Murphy (above) was an off-season pickup by Rochester GM Matt LaDuke who signed the former #3 overall pick of the 2030 SIMBL Draft to a 2-year $44,000,000 deal.  Murphy was drafted by Westbury GM Bill Atteberry and spent the first eleven seasons of his career with the Cannons and helped them win two SIMBL championships from 2035-2045. The 33 year-old "Murph" is off to a 9-1 start with the Roosters with a 2.89 ERA helping Rochester to a SIMBL-best +15 game improvement from one season ago at the 88-game mark.  Rochester finished in last-place in the SL East last season with a 69-93 which was the second-worst record in the SIMBL.  The Roosters currently lead the SL East and will attempt to finish in first-place and become the 23rd worst-to-first turnaround in SIMBL history.

Hi again youngsters.  Lance Stanley reporting for the SIMBL.

Well bedwetters, we have passed the 42nd annual Nicolas Mabie Memorial SIMBL All-Star Game named in honor of former charter and long-time SIMBL GM Steph Mabie's departed infant son Nicolas who was lost back near the beginning of the league in real-life 2006. With that, we are at the half-way mark of the season and we take our annual look back one season ago at the break.

This season, two teams that finished in last place last season, GM Matt LaDuke's Rochester Roosters and the AC Kansas City team of GM Andy Mayfield, have a chance to make a one-season worst-to-first turnaround as both are currently in first-place atop of their divisions this season.  There have been 22 such seasons in the 42-year history of the league including two last season accomplished by GM Pete McGowan's Asheville Smokies who went from the second-worst record the previous season to the best record last season and Bristol GM Greg Checovetes' Bristol Owls.

With that, we take our annual "Lance's Lists" look at what teams' records were one year ago at the break at the 88-game mark and who has improved and who has declined at this same time a season ago.

The largest one-season improvement in SIMBL history was +35 games by the 2014 Birmingham Blue Sox (now the Ann Arbor Wolverines) by former GM Jason DeMarco.  The Blue Sox went from 46-116, the worst record in SIMBL history, to 81-81 which was good enough to win them a division title, in one season from 2013-2014 in the SIMBL First File Era (2005-2018)

The largest one-season decline in SIMBL history was by the 2038 Texas Roadrunners who went 89-73 and a wildcard berth in 2037 to 51-111 two seasons removed from winning the 2036 SIMBL championship.

Here are the one-season team record differences as of the 88-game mid-season mark of this season (7/9/2046) compared to a season ago as the SIMBL officially enters the second half of its 42nd season of play:

+15 Rochester
+13 AC Kansas City
+12 Montreal
+8 San Diego
+7 Bend
+4 New York
+3 Cleveland
+3 Westbury
+3 Hawaii
+1 Las Vegas

0 Pittsburgh

HAWAII'S ALL-TIME SIMBL HOME RUN KING ROGER MARCUM CLUBS 700TH CAREER BLAST

Hawaii's long-time first baseman Roger Marcum (above) has been the SIMBL's all-time home run king since 2044 SIM 25 when he hit #653 to pass SIMBL Hall Of Famer Tony Aguilar.  The 40 year-old former third round pick of the 2027 SIMBL Draft continues to make league history by blasting his 700th career home run in 2046 SIM 14.  Marcum is in his 18th season and has played his entire career with the Pineapples.  The slugger has hit 30+ home runs in 15 seasons, 40+ home runs in 10 seasons and has hit 50+ home runs four times in his career. Marcum is a ten-time All-Star, one-time Silver Slugger Award winner, two-time Gold Glove winner, the 2043 SLDS MVP and was awarded the SL Slugger Of The Year MVP Award in 2037.

Back-back-back-gone! Roger Marcum hit his 700th home run tonight against the Rochester Roosters.

Marcum, of the Hawaii Pineapples, smiled as he rounded all the bases and got mobbed by his teammates at home plate.

The game did stop momentarily as the Pineapples celebrated this accomplishment.

"I was swinging for the fences and the pitch looked like a giant grape fruit," Marcum said. "This is another check off my bucket list. I'll now be setting my sights the next milestone."

The Pineapples first baseman went 1 for 4 with 1 home run and 2 RBI as the Hawaii Pineapples won 9-3 over the Rochester Roosters.

In his career Marcum has gotten 2568 hits with a .262 batting average, scored 1492 runs, hit 700 home runs and driven in 1739.

2046 ALL-STARS PER TEAM

The SIMBL voted its 2046 All-Star starters and had their 42nd annual SIMBL Nicolas Mabie Memorial All-Star Game in Montreal, Quebec this past week.

The game was long-named in honor of former long-time SIMBL GM Steph Mabie's infant son, Nicolas, who passed while Steph was a member of the early years of the league.

The Syndicate League defeated the Union League 5-2 in the game in the Maverick's sold-out Ranch.  It's the second consecutive victory for the SL over their rivals after breaking a four-game losing streak last season when they won 3-1 in Boston with Hawaii's Michael Wigginton winning MVP honors.  The SL holds a 24-18 lead in the all-time series.

Westbury CF Shawn Dailey was named 2046 MVP in a losing cause for the UL.  The 30 year-old first-time All-Star came on in the 6th inning substituting for starter Manuel Ayala in center field and went 2 for 2 with one run and a solo home run in the 7th inning off AC Kansas City's Mark Curtis.

The SL jumped to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as the jumped all over Calgary's UL starter Gilberto Perez.

Rochester SS Kei Morita walked to start the game. After River City's Aaron Ullhom Jr. struck out, Las Vegas' 2045 SL MVP Charles Arms singled the speedy Morita to third base. San Diego's two-time SL MVP Keith Cooper then promptly singled in Morita and moved Arms to second base for a 1-0 SL lead.  Asheville C Nathan Billings then singled in Morita for a 2-0 lead moving Cooper to third base. After St. Petersburg 3B Juan Solis flied out, Sacramento's 12-time All-Star Ben Mitchell singled in Cooper for a 3-0 lead before Cleveland's Ricky Stanley relieved for the UL and got AC Kansas City's Thomas Sheffield to ground out to end the inning.

The lead held to the top of the 6th inning when the SL added a run for a 4-0 lead when Las Vegas' 2045 SL MVP Miguel Gonzalez singled in Indianapolis' Jerome Andrews off of Cleveland's Steve Wilkinson.

The UL woke up a little in the bottom of the 6th inning when Cleveland 3B David Wayne doubled off Chicago's Senzo Sasaki scoring Oregon's two-time MVP Akato Sakata to make it 4-1.

The SL padded their lead in the top of the 7th inning when San Diego 3B Allen Walker singled off of Calgary's Lewis Brown scoring St. Petersburg CF Vincent Stewart to make it 5-1.

In the bottom of the 8th, Westbury CF Shawn Dailey blasted a solo home run off AC Kansas City's Mark Curtis to make it 5-2.

Immediately in the top of the 9th inning, the SL finished the scoring as Las Vegas' Miguel Gonzalez struck again when he doubled off Calgary's five-time UL Middle Reliever Of The Year Russell Kirk before Hawaii's five-time All-Star 2B Hector Colon singled him in off Kirk to make it the final 5-2 score.

Calgary's Gilberto Perez started for the UL while AC Kansas City's Leroy Burbach started for the SL.

Sacramento's Pablo Mendez earned the win while Calgary's Gilberto Perez was tagged with the loss.

San Diego's Anthony Carey, Rochester's Lorenzo Flores, Chicago's Peter Blackman, San Diego's Alfredo De La Rosa, Indianapolis' Milton Frey, Rochester's Ricardo Flores and Knoxville's Julio Reyes earned game holds.  Burbach went three innings of scoreless ball on two hits with three strikeouts.  Cleveland's Ricky Stanley stopped the bleeding in the three-run SL first and went 2.1 innings allowing two hits and no runs for the UL.

Las Vegas' Miguel Gonzalez went 2 for 2 with a double and single and a RBI while Asheville's Nathan Billings went 2 for 5 with two singles and a RBI for the SL.  Texas 3B Weston Tucker went 2 for 2 with a double and single while game MVP Shawn Dailey of Westbury went 2 for 2 with a solo home run and single for the UL.

As as is tradition, all positional players played in the game with the voted starters removed after the 5th inning.  All non-tired pitchers also pitched in the SIMBL's Midsummer Classic.

Montreal's hometown DH Pedro Cendejas Jr. was voted to the game unanimously and led the UL in voting.  AC Kansas City SP Leroy Burbach and Las Vegas CF Charles Arms both were one vote away from being unanimously voted in and led the SL in voting.

Sacramento's Ben Mitchell currently holds the SIMBL's longest All-Star streak with 8 consecutive seasons.  Making the game for the 7th straight season are AC Kansas City's Angel Vasquez, Calgary's Russell Kirk and Oregon's Kimoyo Shimazu. Bend's Anthony Guerrero has made six straight All-Star trips.

Going to their fifth consecutive All-Star Game are Westbury SS Popeye Parrish, Calgary 2B Trevor Lane and Ann Arbor 2B Tyler Conway.  Enjoying four-season streaks are Ann Arbor 1B Arlen Cox, Sacramento SP Billy Lynch, Westbury 3B David Ellis, Bend OF Julio Escobar, Las Vegas SS Miguel Gonzalez and Cleveland 3B David Wayne.

Going to the SIMBL Midsummer Classic for the third straight season are Montreal DH Pedro Cendejas Jr., Calgary SP Gilberto Perez, Las Vegas OF Charles Arms, Asheville SP Luis Rodriguez, Ann Arbor 3B Franklyn Borba, Cleveland SP Ricky Stanley, Knoxville RP Julio Reyes and New York SS Cristo Chavez.

Toronto's 39 year-old Deryk Ryles made his 16th All-Star Game which is second all-time in league history behind long-time closer Chris Ross' record 17 times.

Making the game for the 12th time is Sacramento RF Ben Mitchell. Sacramento SP Billy Lynch was selected for the 9th time in his career.

Calgary's Russell Kirk made the game for the 9th time in his career.

Eight-time All-Stars are now San Diego 1B Keith Cooper, Bend reliever Ricardo Camacho and Ann Arbor 2B Tyler Conway.

Going to the SIMBL Midsummer Classic for the seventh time are Ann Arbor reliever Mitchell Ramsey, Oregon's 2B Kimoyo Shimazu and AC Kansas City CF Angel Vasquez.

Six-time All-Stars now include Westbury SS Popeye Parrish, Bend right fielder Anthony Guerrero and Las Vegas SS Miguel Gonzalez.

Selected to the game for the fifth time are Calgary SS Pedro Santana, Ann Arbor 1B Arlen Cox, Calgary 2B Trevor Lane, Westbury 3B David Ellis, New York OF Mike Lunder, Bend OF Julio Escobar and Las Vegas 1B Joe Goans.

Breaking the longest streak since their last All-Star Game selection this season is AC Kansas City reliever Mark Curtis, the former #2 overall pick of the 2032 SIMBL Draft.  The 34 year-old Curtis makes his first trip in 10 years and the 2036 season.

CHICAGO'S JOHHNY ABRAHAM'S HITTING STREAK ENDS AT 33-GAMES, THIRD-LONGEST IN SIMBL HISTORY

Chicago's Johnny Abraham's (above) hitting streak ended in 2046 SIM 11.  Abraham's 33-game streak stands now as the third-longest in the SIMBL's 42-season history behind Artie Bradley's 36-game streak in 2025 and D.D. Styles' 34-game streak in 2045.  One of the SIMBL's most underrated players, Abraham was the #10 overall pick in the 2030 SIMBL Draft by Chicago GM John Bowden.  In his 13th season, he has seven All-Star team selections, one Silver Slugger and two Gold Gloves in his career resume.  He finished second in 2037 and 2043 in SL MVP voting and has posted three 30 HR/30 SB seasons in his career.  The Hitmen right fielder has hit .284 with 317 HR 1113 RBI 713 SB and has posted an .809 OPS in his career.  Abraham is one of only 14 (two in the SIMBL First File Era 2005-2018) players to have stolen 700 bases in their SIMBL career.

The Sacramento Giants clamped down on Johnny Abraham and put a stop to his hit streak. He went without a hit, ending the run at 33 straight games, but it didn't keep the Hitmen from winning. Chicago downed the Giants 3-1.

The former #10 overall pick of the 2030 SIMBL Draft, in his 13th season in the SIMBL, now stands alone in third-place for the longest hitting streaks in the 42-season of the league.

"It was bound to happen," Abraham said with a shrug after the game.

Abraham on the season is hitting .288 with 7 home runs. His stats include 30 RBIs and 37 runs scored.
