Annual Plea For Felipe Santana's Election To The SIMBL Hall Is Here
Ann Arbor's Manuel Ayala & Franklyn Borba Ending SIMBL Careers In Elite Fashion
Despite leading the SIMBL in history with the most 30 HR/30 SB seasons for decades, and now standing alone in second-place with ten seasons of the rare accomplishment, longtime San Diego second baseman Felipe Santana (above) has not impressed SIMBL GMs enough to enter the SIMBL Hall Of Fame. The nine-time All-Star, three-time Silver Slugger and the 2038 SL Rookie OfThe Year hit .270 with 2829 career hits, 549 home runs, 1642 RBI with an .820 OPS with712 stolen bases in an 18-year career: 13 seasons with San Diego, two with Boston and Cleveland and one season with Bend. Santana's ten 30/30 seasons were the most in SIMBL history for several years before eventual SIMBL Hall Of Famers Hugh Gordon and Trevor Lane passed him, along with future first-ballot Hall Of Famer Manuel Ayala, with 11 total 30 HR/30 SB seasons. Despite receiving 63.8% of the ballot in 2056, Santana fell just short of the 66.7% minimum of votes from SIMBL GMs to get elected. The Carcas, Venezuela native watched his first cousin, longtime Calgary shortstop Pedro Santana, get elected in to the SIMBL shrine in 2058 while Felipe only garnered 45.8% of the ballots that year. SIMBL Commissioner Christian DeMarco and many members of the SIMBL Front Office have campaigned unsuccessfully to SIMBL GMs throughout recent years and have yet to be successful to convince many hardliners to give Felipe the pass they believe he deserves. Santana remains the only retired player in the SIMBL Top 20 in career total bases not in the prestigious SIMBL Hall Of Fame.

By Lance Stanley SIMBL Contributor
Hi again youngsters.
Lance Stanley reporting for the SIMBL.
Yes, bedwetters, yet another SIMBL season has started as the league has officially begun their 58th season of history and the 44th season in the SIMBL New File Era (2019-current).
While there seems to be a divide amongst SIMBL GMs about traditional old school statistics and the very popular Next Gen table of newer statistics faction, all can agree on one statistic that sums up a player's productivity during the entirety of their career:
Total bases.
With the new season upon us and looking at the SIMBL career total bases listing, it's very safe to state that the list is pretty secured for a very long time from any climbs into the Top 10 or even the Top 20 being several seasons away from those players in their primes right now.
Ann Arbor's legendary duo of Manuel Ayala (left) and Franklyn Borba (right) are in their 20th season playing together. Combined the Bash Brothers have hit 1205 home runs for the Wolverines which are the most by a two-player combination for a franchise in the SIMBL's long 58-season history.
Ann Arbor's duo of future first-ballot Hall Of Famers, Manuel Ayala and Frankyn Borba, are both in their 20th seasons together played with the team that drafted them, the Wolverines. From the looks of it, longtime Wolverines GM Troy Vogel has them on team-friendly one-year deals and they will ride the bench as Ann Arbor looks to groom their younger players while Ayala and Borba can pad their stats in backup duty a couple times a month in what likely will be their final seasons in the SIMBL.
But, as even Vogel can admit, the Ayala-Borba era is over in Ann Arbor, Michigan leaving with a sole SIMBL championship back in the 2045 season. A season which both Ayala and Borba were in their third year in the league together, won a SIMBL ring for their tempermental GM, and planned to win several more together as the duo's future looked very promising and put fear into fellow SIMBL GMs who were forecasting how much damage the two sluggers and MVPs could do to the rest of the SIMBL into the future.
As they stand today, both Borba and Ayala are 12th and 13th respectively on the Top 20 career bases list and will certainly enter the Top 10 this season even with a limited number of at bats. Both Borba and Ayala took most of last season playing on a 90-loss team for Vogel to allow them to become only the 11th and 12th players, respectively, in the SIMBL's long 58-season history to hit 500 home runs and 500 doubles in a career.
Last season, both longtime Wolverines also joined only SIMBL Hall Of Famers Roger Marcum (705), Deryk Ryles (679) Tony Aguilar (652), Julian Winfield (649), Colt McAlister (626) and Jake Boles (617) in the exclusive 600 career home run club last season as well with Ayala taking to the last days of his 19th SIMBL season to do so.
The Wolverines' Bash Brothers made even more impressive history by becoming the top duo in SIMBL history to hit combined blasts between them. Their records looks to stand for a very long time ahead as of the April 17, 2062 league date, Borba (604) and Ayala (601) have gone over the wall 1205 times during the past 20 seasons together in Ann Arbor more than any duo in SIMBL history.
Even more legendary, last season Ayala and Borba joined a more elite group by joining only SIMBL Hall Of Famers Julian Winfield, Carlos Molina and Jake Boles as the only players in SIMBL history to hit 600 home runs and also hit 500 doubles in a career.
Borba and Ayala also have combined three Union League Slugger Of The Year MVP Awards, 16 All-Star Game selections, 13 Silver Slugger Awards and 13 Gold Gloves together and led Ann Arbor to five divisional titles, two wildcard berths, three trips to the ULCS and had to make Commissioner Christian DeMarco state his most-hated words as the two led the Wolverines to the 2045 SIMBL championship.
Ayala, has been more than a one or two-trick pony in his career. He was a stellar and highlight-reel center fielder for over 18 seasons and he has tied with current Cleveland first baseman Michael Lamb for the most Richard P. DeMarco Golden Glove Defensive Awards in SIMBL history with 12. Ayala, known affectionately as "Crash" by the Ann Arbor faithful due to his willingness to sacrifice his body at all costs to get to the ball and make an out, also holds the all-time record with Lamb for six consecutive Gold Glove seasons from 2044-2049. If not for not winning the award in the 2050 season, Ayala would've won an incredible ten straight awards for defensive excellence, winning ten Gold Gloves in eleven seasons from 2044 through the 2054 season.
The soon-to-be 41 year-old Borba, despite dwindling ratings and rare playing time, has an outside chance to join only 18 others needing 50 more hits to become the 19th player in SIMBL history to join the 3000 hits club while the 39 year-old Ayala's chances are not realistic with him needing 122 hits with dismal contact ratings that hint loudly at retirement.
Felipe Santana, who led the SIMBL in 30 home runs/30 stolen base seasons for decades and is still looking for his long-awaited call from the SIMBL's Hall, is the only retired player in the Top 20 total bases all-time list not enshrined into the SIMBL hall for excellence. Santana currently sits in 16th-place with 549 career home runs and is one of only 20 players in the SIMBL's 58-season history to have 1600 or more runs batted in.
Santana barely missed the cut to get into the SIMBL Hall in the 2056 vote by all SIMBL GMs when he got 63.8% of the vote just one vote shy of the 66.7% required to be elected. Since then, he has received 59.1% in the 2057 voting, 45.8% in 2058, 45.8% in 2059, 33.3% in 2059, 54.2% in 2060 and again 54.2% in the 2061 balloting.
Bristol's Daniel Sarachaga is the only active player joining Borba and Ayala, currently in the Top 20 in total bases. The 19-year veteran and nine-time All-Star is also one of the only 12 players on the elite 500 home run/500 doubles list. Sarachaga joins Ayala and Borba and 13 others of the 16 players to drive in 1700 or more runs in their careers as well.
Three-time SL MVP and all-time SIMBL stolen base leader, Kei Morita, now in his 20th season, signed with the third team in his career with Knoxville in the offseason. The 13-time All-Star and 9-time Silver Slugger Award winner needs 134 total bases this season to enter the prestigious Top 20 all-time total bases list and should do so easily later on this season.
San Diego's young superstar on the rise, first baseman Mario Pena, led the SIMBL and Syndicate League with 368 total bases last season while Bristol's young superstar at third base, Corey Schmidt, and Bend's unheralded Lowell Wright both led the Union League with 345.
Only three players in the 44 seasons of the SIMBL New File Era (2019-current) have amassed 400 or more total bases in one season. Tony Aguilar has the all-time single season total bases record of 425 in his historic 2024 season when he hit .315 with a 62 home runs and 154 RBI. Aguilar posted the only 60 HR/60 SB season in league history that season and what many believed will never be seen in the SIMBL again.
Julian Winfield, after he signed with Tampa Bay (now Indianapolis) as the first superstar free agent in league history, had 414 total bases in his 2032 SL MVP season. Carlos Molina posted 407 total bases while hitting .302 with 57 home runs and 136 RBI also in 2024 and in any other season besides Aguilar's historic season he would've posted the best productive season offensively in SIMBL history and would've won the Daryl Ryles Slugger Of The Year MVP Award that eluded him his entire career.
Former Dallas Texans (now Miami Sharks) superstar Tony Aguilar (above) won five Union League MVP Awards during his SIMBL Hall Of Fame career but no season was better than his historic 2024 campaign in the SIMBL New File Era (2019-current) which included 425 total bases which is a record that still stands in the league. The 13-time All-Star posted the only 60 home run/60 stolen base season in SIMBL history in 2024 by hitting .315 with a SIMBL New File Era record 62 home runs, 154 RBI with a 1.096 OPS and 88 stolen bases. Aguilar's season is argued with SIMBL First File Era's (2005-2018) 8-time MVP Daryl Ryles' historic 2008 season as the bests in the SIMBL's combined eras history. That season, Ryles hit .352 with 69 home runs, 172 RBI with a 1.240 OPS all remain SIMBL single season records 54 seasons on.
After more midnight oil prying and investigating SIMBL history by The Old Man here and my crew, we came upon an interesting statistic regarding total bases' influences on SIMBL Most Valuable Player voting.
Of the 31 single-seasons performances that make up the top amount of total bases in the SIMBL's 58-season history, 21 seasons performed by a player listed within those top 31 seasons of total bases, or 67.7% of the time, won that season's Most Valuable Player Award.
Let's take a further look at the compiled "Lance's List" below:

BOSTON OUSTS INDIANAPOLIS IN SIX, WIN 2061 SIMBL COVETED CUP CHAMPIONSHIP
Wildcard Patriots Win Third SIMBL Title In Franchise History, First Since 2044
Boston Patriot teammates mob the pitching mound after the championship-clinching last out of Game Six of the 2061 SIMBL Coveted Cup Championship Series. The Patriots of sixth-year GM JD Schloss won the third championship in franchise history, their first in 17 seasons and became the 13th wildcard team to win a SIMBL title.
Boston catcher Michael Munnings, who was the #1 overall pick of the 2054 SIMBL Draft, hugs two-time UL Fireman Of The Year and five-time All-Star closer Armando Rivera after the last out of Game Six to win the Patriots their third SIMBL title and first since the 2044 season when the franchise was the former Westbury Cannons.
Indianapolis teammates ponder over their gloomy deficit during a pitching change in Game Six of the 2061 SIMBL Coveted Cup Championship Series. The Rams made their fifth trip to the SIMBL CS and their first since the 2048 season when current Texas GM Jeff Palin led them to the only SIMBL title in the franchise's 57-year history.

CHICAGO'S KENJI SATO ADDS TO CAREER ACCOLADES, BECOMES 23RD PITCHER IN SIMBL HISTORY WITH 3000 CAREER STRIKEOUTS
Chicago's reigning two-time Syndicate League Hurler Of The Year Kenji Sato (above) throws his 3000th career strikeout in 2061 SIM 14 to become the 23rd pitcher in the SIMBL's 57-season history to achieve the feat. Nine days earlier, the 4-time SL Hurler Of The Year and 10-time All-Star became only the 13th pitcher in league history to win 250 games.
July 8, 2061
In a 2061 SIMBL season in which many major milestones are being reached, Chicago's Hall Of Fame-bound Kenji Sato became the 23rd pitcher in the league's 57-season history to join the exclusive 3000 career strikeouts club in 2061 SIM 14.
The #1 overall pick in the 2043 SIMBL Draft is a two-time reigning Syndicate League Hurler Of The Year and has won the award four times in his career in 2052, 2053, 2059 and 2060.
Nine days earlier, the ten-time All-Star made more SIMBL history as he became only the 13th pitcher in league history to win 250 games or more.
One of the most prolific Japanese exports in SIMBL history, Sato's 43 career shutouts are the second-most in league history next to Bend legend and six-time UL Hurler Of The Year Eddie Batista's 70 blanks.
The 38 year-old is in his 16th season and is in his seventh season with the Hitmen after spending the first nine seasons of his career with San Diego. As of the July 25, 2061 league date, he sports a 257-159 career record with a 3.02 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. Sato has won 20 games in his illustrious career four times, 18 or more games five times, 17 or more wins six times, 16 or more games nine times and has won 15 or more games in ten seasons.
Hawaii's William Branch is currently 44 strikeouts shy of joining the club as the 24th pitcher in SIMBL history with 3000 career strikeouts.

BANDITS LEGEND EDDIE BATISTA JOINS TWELVE OTHERS IN EXCLUSIVE 250 CAREER WINS CLUB
One of the very best starting pitchers of his generation and in SIMBL history, Bend's six-time Hurler Of The Year Eddie Batista (above) locks in during 2061 SIM 13 in which he became the twelfth pitcher in the SIMBL's 57-season history with 250 career wins.
Saturday July 2nd, 2061
Eddie Batista of the Bend Bandits will go down as one of the league's legendary pitchers after his 7-5 win today against the New York Enforcers.
"It felt like it was a postseason game, one out at a time," said his manager. "It was something special to see."
The 35-year-old Batista picked up his 250th career victory at Deschutes Field. He hurled 8 innings, gave up 11 hits and registered 10 strikeouts along with 1 walk.
"I've worked a long time for this," Batista said. "I can't believe it's really here. It feels great!"
Batista has chalked up a lifetime ERA of 2.87 with 250 victories and 146 defeats. He has totaled 4126 career strikeouts in 3815.1 innings while holding opponents to a .235 batting average.
