THE SOUNDS & SMELLS OF SPRING TRAINING!
SIMBL GMs Getting Ready For 61st Season As 2065 Spring Training Arrives & Opening Day Approaches
The 2064 SIMBL champion Bend Bandits take to the field as the SIMBL begins Spring Training for the 2065 season and prepare for the league's 61st season of history. GM Ted Williams will attempt to become only the ninth team in the SIMBL's 60-season history to defend their title and win back-to-back championships. The road to defending the title is ever-challenging each season as several seasoned SIMBL GMs load up and upgrade each offseason with free agency and building through the draft. The upcoming 2065 SIMBL Draft will start upon Opening Day as well with the announcement of the 2065 SIMBL draft class on the April 1st league date and Opening Day slated for the April 6, 2065 league date. 2065 SIMBL Hall Of Fame ballots will also be needed from all SIMBL GMs when the ballot is also released on the March 5th, 2065 league date.

2059 SIMBL DRAFT ORDER ANNOUNCED
Charter Franchise Bend Bandits Hold #1 Overall Pick For Second Time In Franchise History
While some SIMBL GMs are lucky enough to have guided their teams through the craziness and unpredictable maze that is the SIMBL postseason, some other SIMBL GMs are already busy looking over their teams short and long-term and preparing for the off-season, free agency, trade block talks and the hope that comes with the annual SIMBL Draft.
Here's the official 2059 SIMBL draft order when the draft begins upon 2059 Opening Day when SIMBL GMs will have plenty of time to scout and queue their short lists when the draft class is officially scouted, released and available in game upon the conclusion of 2059 Spring Training.
For the second time in franchise history, longtime Bend Bandits GM Ted Williams, one of the four remaining active founding and charter GMs upon the SIMBL's founding back on real-life date September 2, 2006, holds the #1 overall pick in the draft. It's Ted's first time picking first overall in the SIMBL Draft since the 2046 season when his Bandits struck gold and drafted future first-ballot SIMBL Hall Of Fame starting pitcher Eddie Batista, who has gone on to become the SIMBL's best and most dominating pitcher for over the past decade winning six UL Hurler Of The Year Awards, and now is definitively considered one of the top three pitchers (joining eight-time Hurler Of The Year winner and SIMBL Hall Of Famer Bobby Grimes and six-time Hurler Of The Year winner and SIMBL Hall Of Famer Alan Alexander Anderson in the SIMBL's 54-season history.
Batista is one of only three players, joining Pedro Cendejas Jr. (2040) and current St. Petersburg ace Bennie Silva (2044), in the SIMBL's long history to have gone right from the draft and into the major leagues without spending a day in the minor leagues.
The 2059 SIMBL Draft will begin shortly and be announced after the annual setup and will be done through the StatsPlus draft utility.
Thanks to longtime SIMBL GM and New York GM Chris Gattuso and his beautiful and talented daughter for the continued help with most of the graphics used on the website including the draft logos every season.

SEVERAL CAREER MILESTONES SET AS 2058 SEASON WINDS TO AN END
Cleveland catcher Grady Nelson (above) smiles after hitting in his 34th straight game. Nelson's 34-game hitting streak during the 2058 season is tied for the second-longest in the SIMBL's 54-year history. The 25 year-old 21st pick of the 2051 SIMBL Draft had a breakout season towards being the best backstop in the SIMBL by hitting .326 with 24 HR 73 RBI and a robust .943 OPS and was voted as the starting catching on this season's UL All-Star team.
As the 2058 SIMBL season is coming to a close and inching forward to another exciting postseason, the league's 54th season of history had plenty of historic and highlight moments.
The defending 2057 SIMBL champion Cleveland Brownies of GM Greg Adler became the 15th defending league champion to not make it the postseason the season after to defend their title in the SIMBL Coveted Cup Championship Series' 54-year history (27.7%).
Cleveland catcher Grady Nelson had a 34-game hitting streak which ties for the second-longest hitting streak in the SIMBL's 54-season history. Nelson's streak came two games from tying SIMBL Hall Of Famer Artie Bradley's 36-game hitting streak which has stood as a SIMBL record for the past 28 years.
The 2058 season posted the most milestones that the long-standing league has had in one season in several seasons.
Knoxville's Kimoyo Shimazu, after being out of the league last season, joined SIMBL Hall Of Famers Akiro Hikaru (3828), Julian Winfield (3662) and Matthew Brown (3627) as the fourth player in SIMBL history to have 3500 or more career hits.
Calgary's Trevor Lane became the 16th player in the league's 54-year history to collect 3000 career hits. The #4 overall pick of the 2039 SIMBL Draft has spent his entire 19-year career with the Clippers and manned the second base position for the past 18 seasons before giving up his starting position late in the season to the SIMBL's #2 prospect Roberto Rubio. Lane joins four other players with 19 seasons with the same team which is third-most in SIMBL history.

New York's Daniel Sarachaga, Cleveland's Gene Smith, Ann Arbor's Franklyn Borba and Cleveland's Ellisworth Holliman joined only 51 players in league history to have 2500 career hits.
Ann Arbor's Michael Price, Indianapolis' Popeye Parrish and San Diego's Allen Walker all joined the exclusive 500 career home runs club. In addition to the First File Era's (2005-2014) Hall Of Famer and 8-time SL Slugger Of The Year MVP Daryl Ryles, there are now 22 players in league history that have hit 500 or more career home runs.
Chicago's John Demko, Bristol's Manuel Hernandez, Montreal's Michael Lamb, Boston's Steve Levine and Texas' Malcom Young all joined the 400 career home runs club in the 2058 season.
On the other side of the ball, Chicago's Kenji Sato, San Diego's Mark Sipp, St. Petersburg Bennie Silva and New York's Ken Hunter all posted their 200th wins this past season. All four are former Hurler Of The Year winners and now are among only 41 pitchers who have won 200 career games in the SIMBL's 54 seasons of history.
Bend's defending and six-time UL Hurler Of The Year Eddie Batista became only the 7th pitcher in league history to strikeout 3500 or more batters. In his 13th season and at the age of 32 years-old, the #1 overall pick of the 2046 SIMBL Draft, is on pace to become the third player in league history to notch 4000 career strikeouts and, barring significant injuries, has a serious chance to break Chris Morales' league record of 4896 career sitdowns.
St. Petersburg teammates Mark Cochran and Bennie Silva and Hawaii's Pedro Delgado joined only 20 others in the exclusive 3000 career strikeouts club. The two Admirals have been teammates for the past 14 seasons.
As of the last seven games, the 2058 season is only the 7th season and the first since the 2054 season, to not have a pitcher to post a no-hitter in the SIMBL New File Era's (2019-2058) 40-season history. |

"He simply produced -- game after game after game. That's what I loved about him."
Those sentiments were expressed by one of Hugh Gordon's managers from his Boston Revolution days at the gifted shortstop's Hall of Fame induction ceremony yesterday. On a cloudy, but comfortable afternoon, he took his rightful place among the best SIM Baseball League players of all-time.
The newest SIMBL Hall of Famer assessed his career in these words: "I did my best to contribute to the team -- in the field, at the plate, in the dugout. I didn't care about personal numbers. I just went out there to win."
Gordon spent his best years playing for the Boston Revolution (now River City Rascals), playing in 2865 games with a .285 career batting average and 3182 hits. He also scored 1721 runs and drove in 1559 runs with 530 home runs. The #1 overall pick of the 2037 SIMBL Draft won the Syndicate League Slugger Of The Year MVP Award in his fourth season in 2041, was a seven-time All-Star and a five-time Gold Glove winner at second base and is a two-time SIMBL champion helping lead the Montreal Mavericks in 2046 and the Indianapolis Rams in 2048 to the SIMBL Coveted Cup Championship and appeared in 9 postseasons.
A rare power and speed threat, Gordon's eleven 30 home run/30 stolen base seasons are tied with current players Trevor Lane and Manuel Ayala as the most in SIMBL history. His 92.4 WAR posting is the 6th all-time among batters and 16th overall in SIMBL history. The newly elected Hall Of Famer's 9.6 WAR in 2041 was at the time the 5th-highest by a batter in a single-season in the SIMBL New File Era (2019-current) and currently stands 12th-best all-time.
Gordon retired from baseball when he was 41.

There is a new statue in the SIM Baseball League Hall of Fame.
It belongs David Virgil. The star pitcher was inducted this past weekend. All it took to get there was 232 wins.
"I always dreamed of being a SIM Baseball League player, but I never dreamed of being in the Hall of Fame," Virgil said, "I could have never envisioned myself standing next to my childhood idols and yet here I am. And to the Hall of Famers sitting behind me, I am truly humbled and in awe of standing here in front of you."
In his career, David Virgil, who is a 11-time All-Star and two-time SL Fireman Of The Year Award winner, posted a record of 232-179 and fanned 2312 batters in 3716 innings with a 3.30 ERA. The 7th overall pick of the 2037 SIMBL Draft is the second pitcher in SIMBL history, joining fellow SIMBL Hall Of Famer Keith Patterson, to have won 200 games and saved 150 games. Virgil won 15 or more games in nine seasons and led the league in ERA twice and in saves once. He was a pivotal part of winning a championship in 2040 with the Asheville Smokies. After spending his first five seasons as a reliever, winning the 2040 and 2041 SL Fireman Of The Year Awards in the process, Virgil's 232 career wins are 14th in SIMBL history. Virgil is one of only 30 players in league history to have been named as an 11 or more time All-Star selection.
At times David Virgil fought back tears as he thanked his family and close friends for sticking by him when he had to overcome some difficult personal problems.
Summing up his years on the diamond, Virgil offered a hopeful message to the large induction crowd.
"I care for this game with my heart and soul. I dedicated my life to being the best pitcher I could be. You leave me humbled and grateful for this honor. I'd like to leave an offering of a message of hope. That is, with the grace of God, you can change your life, whoever you are."

All-time he played in 2424 games, batted .276 with 509 home runs, 2540 base hits, 1561 RBIs and 1370 runs scored -- stats great enough to be acclaimed a baseball immortal.
Pedro Santana was officially inducted into the SIM Baseball League Hall of Fame today. This was his 4th time on the ballot, where he was elected with 70.8% of the vote.
At his Hall of Fame induction, the superstar shortstop told the audience the secret of his success: "I was born to be a ballplayer... I also practiced a lot. Sunup to sundown in the summertime my brothers and I would be on the ballfield. We did it every minute we could. Boy, I loved to play baseball. Still do, and still would, if I could. I always got a special kick on opening day, no matter how many you went through. I looked forward to it like a birthday party when you're a kid. You think something wonderful is going to happen."
One of his managers summed up his career very well: "You saw him standing out there on the diamond and you knew you had a darn good chance to win the baseball game."
One of the SIMBL's all-time most consistent production power hitters, Santana drove in 100 runs in nine consecutive seasons from 2040-2048 and posted eight consecutive 30 HR 100 RBI seasons from 2040-2047 which is the second-most in the SIMBL New File Era (2019-current). At the time of his retirement, Santana's 509 career home runs and 1561 RBI were both 14th in league history all-time. His nine 100 RBI seasons are tied for 5th-best in the SIMBL's 40-year New File Era (2019-current). Santana is one of only 14 positional players to have played the same position for one team consecutively for 16 or more seasons and him and Clippers second baseman Trevor Lane were double play teammates for a SIMBL-record 15 consecutive seasons from 2040-2054.
A three-time SIMBL champion and three-time postseason MVP and the 2043 ULCS and 2043 SIMBL Coveted Cup Championship Series MVP, Santana retired from baseball in 2054, when he was 39. He wore a Calgary Clippers hat at his induction ceremony. Santana became the 16th elected Hall Of Famer to have played his entire career with one team.

One of the most feared leadoff hitters in SIMBL history, Angel Vasquez played baseball a brief 13 seasons and he played it well. Then at the age of 41, he called it a career. In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, Vasquez has been voted into the Hall of Fame, with 75.0% of ballots voting him in.
"There is so much to love about this game," the newest honoree said during his induction speech at the SIM Baseball League Baseball Hall of Fame. "I couldn't imagine anything greater than my first major league game. Then I hit my first home run. Then the other landmarks came. But nothing tops today... to think that I made it to the Hall of Fame."
The legendary center fielder put up some impressive numbers. Vasquez played in 1796 games, compiled a .302 batting average, hit 60 home runs, drove in 622 runs and scored 1348 times during his career. His 1056 stolen bases are one of only ten players in SIMBL history with 1000 career swipes stealing 90+ bases in seven seasons and 80+ bases in nine seasons. A three-time league batting champion, he hit .300 or better in six seasons and .299 in two others and hit .290+ in ten of his 13 seasons. He led the league in on base percentage four times, walks four times, runs three times and hits twice.
Vasquez's 10.61 WAR in his rookie and MVP season of 2040 was the highest in SIMBL history at the time and still stands as the 4th-best WAR season in the 40-year SIMBL New File Era (2019-current).
Vasquez became the second player in SIMBL history to win a Rookie Of The Year Award and Most Valuable Player Award, after fellow SIMBL Hall Of Famer Jake Boles, in the same season in his 2040 rookie season, one of the best debut seasons in league history. He made 8 consecutive All-Star teams in his first eight seasons in the SIMBL from 2040-2047 which ties for 5th-best in the SIMBL New File Era (2019-current). Vasquez lead three teams to seven postseason berths in his first ten seasons.
