WOLVERINES STALWART FRANKLYN BORBA BECOMES 8TH IN SIMBL HISTORY WITH 600 CAREER HOME RUNS
Ann Arbor Teammate Manuel Ayala Next To Join Exclusive Club, Most Home Runs By Team Duo In SIMBL History
Longtime Ann Arbor shortstop-third baseman Franklyn Borba (above) connects on his 600th career home run in 2061 SIM 9. The 4th overall pick of the 2043 SIMBL Draft by longtime Wolverines GM Troy Vogel joins only seven others in the exclusive 600 Career Home Run Club. The 40 year-old is in his 19th season all with the Wolverines. He is one of 15 players with 1700 career runs batted in. Borba is a two-time UL MVP Award winner winning the award in the 2048 and 2052 seasons, coming in second in the voting in 2049 and in third-place in 2044 and 2055. He is a 9-time All-Star selection, a six-time Silver Slugger winner, one-time Gold Glove winner and was voted the 2044 UL Rookie Of The Year. He won the 2045 ULCS MVP and 2047 ULDS MVP awards and helped lead Ann Arbor to the 2045 SIMBL championship.
A big sigh of relief erupted from Franklyn Borba after he hit his 600th career homer. The Ann Arbor third baseman said, "I'm glad it's over...now I can go back to just playing baseball."
It was quite a day for Borba. He got his name in the league record books with 3 hits, 4 runs batted in, scored 1 run and his team, the Ann Arbor Wolverines beat the Toronto Rush 9-5.
Borba knew it when he hit it. He raised his hands in the air, then ran the bases like a high school player, clapping and grinning.
He told reporters in the postgame interview, "I was acting goofy running the bases... but it was my 600th home run."
"It was great," his manager said. "He stood there and watched it...we all did. You just felt it was coming...you just had a sense he would hit it soon. He has been having a lot of good at-bats. It was great to get it out of the way."
Borba is four doubles away from becoming only the 9th player in league history with 500 career doubles and 500 career home runs. His longtime teammate Manuel Ayala is seven home runs away from joining Borba to become the 9th player in SIMBL history with 600 home runs. Their combined 1093 career home runs as teammates are the most in the league's 57-season history.
In his career Borba has hit for a .281 average and totaled 2886 hits, 600 home runs and 1719 RBIs.

In conversation about SIMBL history amongst SIMBL pundits, six-time SL Hurler Of The Year Alan Alexander Anderson (above left) is considered to be perhaps the best pitcher in SIMBL history. A first-ballot SIMBL Hall Of Famer and 14-time All-Star, "Triple A" has held the SIMBL career quality start record for the past 23 years since his retirement after the 2038 season. The 15th overall pick of the 2019 SIMBL New File Era Inaugural Draft's six Hurler Of The Year Awards are tied for second-most with current Bend Bandits ace Eddie Batista for the most in league history next to SIMBL Hall Of Famer Bobby Grimes' record eight awards for the seasonal league best pitcher. Marc Jackson was inducted into the SIM Baseball League Hall of Fame today. Present at his induction ceremony were several former managers who had glowing words to say about baseball's newest immortal.
"He is the only man I've ever seen pitch a shutout on a day when he had absolutely nothing."
"Marc pitched as well as he had to. He didn't worry about his ERA. He pitched to win. He was businesslike and he reacted to the score, so he didn't mind giving up a run or two. When it got close, he was tougher."
"To be a successful manager, you have to have faith in God above and a Marc Jackson on the mound."
The #1 overall pick of the 2041 SIMBL Draft won the Union League Hurler Of The Year Award in the 2048 and 2052 seasons with Texas and was a nine-time All-Star. He also had a big hand in helping Cleveland win the 2057 SIMBL Coveted Cup Championship Series.
The dominating right hander won at least 15 games in a season nine times, 16+ games six times, 17 or more games five times, 18+ games three times and won 20+ games once. Jackson won 17 or more games for four consecutive seasons from 2051 through 2054 all the while leading the SIMBL in innings pitched all of those four seasons as well. He led his league in a major single-season statistic 40 times in his Hall Of Fame career.
Jackson retired at the age of 40. During his fabulous career he put up a 226-197 won-lost record with 3783 strikeouts in 4034.1 innings and compiled an impressive 3.41 ERA.

The SIM Baseball League Hall of Fame just added a fine second baseman and hitter to its number. The newest member of baseball's most elite group is Cesar Cortez, who retired at the age of 42.
"I always knew I was good enough to play, but the Hall of Fame was one of the few things I never even dreamed of," said Cortez at his induction ceremony. "For me to focus a lot on the individual, that's not the way I learned to play the game. Baseball is a team game. You win as a team, you lose as team. You also do so many things together, but it is not an 'I' thing."
The #8 overall pick of the 2036 SIMBL Draft by Asheville was an eight-time All-Star and helped the Smokies win the 2040 SIMBL Coveted Cup Championship Series. He was also named Most Valuable Player of the 2040 Syndicate League Championship Series en route to the 2040 SIMBL championship.
During his illustrious career, Cortez had 330 home runs among his 2770 hits, while batting .282. He played in 2482 games, scored 1398 runs and knocked in 1218 runs.

Good relievers can often go unappreciated and unnoticed. That was not the case today when Luis Martinez was inducted into the SIM Baseball League Hall of Fame. He will go down in history as one of the more dominant relievers of his generation and in SIMBL history.
Martinez was 39 when he retired from baseball after a brief but illustrious 13-year career with Oregon, Calgary and Bend. Few relief pitchers in league history have been as dominant as Martinez was from 2019 through 2031.
Speaking at his induction, one of his managers observed, "A guy who throws what he intends to throw, that's the definition of a good pitcher. That's why Luis was such a great pitcher."
The 2026 Union League Middle Reliever Of The Year and five-time All-Star's 2.38 career earned run average lists second all-time among all qualifying pitchers in SIMBL history. Martinez was instrumental in helping Calgary win SIMBL championships in 2023 and 2025.
In an illustrious career Martinez nailed down 175 saves, appeared in 856 games, fashioned a 69-61 won-loss record with a 2.38 ERA, and had 1274 strikeouts in 1094.2 innings.
