Week's #1 Player: Oregon's Ortiz Monday, September 15th , 2064 22-year-old Geoffrey Ortiz sent shock waves through SIM Baseball League last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Union League Player of the Week Award. A newcomer to the league, Ortiz made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .435 average, 10 hits in 23 at-bats, 3 home runs and 8 runs batted in. Where the Oregon Pioneers right fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Ortiz certainly made his mark last week. Ortiz has collected 143 hits for the Pioneers this year, 26 of them home runs. He has also netted 80 RBIs and scored 71 runs while batting .271. |
