Cortez Bangs Out 5 Base Hits Saturday, August 10th, 2041 Cesar Cortez told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard." Well, that's just what Cortez of the Asheville Smokies did against the Rochester Roosters. He went to the plate 8 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, but his club still suffered a 8-3 defeat. "Not much I can say," offered Cortez in the postgame press conference. "I got a bunch of hits, but it would have been much better to get a win. Can I trade 5 hits for the win?" Cesar Cortez hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th, singled in the 9th, grounded out in the 11th, struck out in the 13th and flied out in the 15th.
