Hitmen Prevail, 6-5, Over Knoxville
|
The Chicago Hitmen downed the Knoxville Lumberkings, 6-5. The hitting star was center fielder Michael Ayers. Ayers was 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Hitmen. Chicago reliever Rafael Cruz picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Monte Arnold took the loss. Pablo Ventura was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 20 of 26 save opportunities.
John Vencius, who finished 4th in the SL in wins above replacement with 6.2 in 2062, aided the Chicago cause with a 2-run double in the bottom of the second. For the game, the shortstop went 2-3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs.
"We're all about heart and hustle on this team. That's what wins ballgames," Vencius told the Chicago Daily News.
The win gives Chicago a season record of 43-40.
