Pivotal Game 5 Goes to Host Sharks, 5-3
|
Game 5 was big. So was Frank Nipper.
In leading Miami to a crucial 5-3 victory over the Calgary Clippers at Revolution Field today, the Miami starter rose to the occasion, tossing 8 good innings. Nipper threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball as the Sharks defended their home field to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 League Divisional Series.
Kevin Carlton, the Miami right fielder, contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 3-2, Sharks. For the game, Carlton was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk.
"There was a kid in the stands with a sign that said 'Miami Sharks (probably) 2063 SIMBL Coveted Cup Championship Series Champions'," Carlton told reporters after the game. "I told him, 'Premature, but I like the confidence.'"
Game 6 is scheduled for Tuesday at Victors Field in Calgary.
