Smokies Fall Short, 4-3, at Knoxville
|
The Knoxville Lumberkings racked up a win at Jack Daniels Field, bumping off the Asheville Smokies, 4-3. Chuck Trinemeyer, who started for Knoxville, pitched effectively for his team. Trinemeyer went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 9. His record improves to 4-5. The save went to Bryan Malone, number 13 for him.
Had Alfredo Martinez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Martinez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Lumberkings.
In postgame comments to the Knoxville Daily, Trinemeyer said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Lumberkings go to 23-27, putting them third in the Syndicate League East.
