Despite a fine performance by first baseman Joshua Preuss, the St. Petersburg Admirals lost to the Asheville Smokies, 9-4. Preuss was 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2. The winner was Shumei Kouda, who threw 136 pitches over 8.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 12 hits. The Smokies sport a record of 13-25.

Michael O'Neill hit a run-scoring double off Bill MacGruder in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Smokies in front, 5-4. In addition to the double, O'Neill had 1 single, while going 2 for 5.
