Clippers No Match for Wright, Hustlers in 10-0 Thumping
|
Justin Wright of the Las Vegas Hustlers was on top of his game today.
The 29-year-old tantalized the Calgary Clippers with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 10-0 shutout.
"He had the changeup working," Calgary manager Christian DeMarco said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Las Vegas hurler had 3 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort.
Wright told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This season-to-date, Wright has fashioned a 4-3 mark and 3.83 ERA in 51.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .286 against him and he has logged 30 strikeouts.
