The Asheville Smokies topped the River City Rascals by the score of 14-7, with the biggest share of the credit going to first baseman Gilberto Pinto. Pinto was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4 for the Smokies on the day. Asheville pitcher Don Hill got the win, upping his record to 2-0. Bobby Young got the loss. The victory makes Asheville 5-8.

Pinto had an important at-bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, when he hit a grand slam home run. The Smokies went on to win.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Pinto told the Asheville Herald.
