Smokies Tagged with 7-5 Loss
|
The Toronto Rush withstood an impressive performance by Asheville third baseman Casey Miller to defeat the Smokies, 7-5, at Toronto Ballpark Center. Miller went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Eric Nielsen earned the win for Toronto. He lasted 7.2 innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 2-0. The loss makes Asheville 56-54.
One significant plate appearance for Toronto came with no one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Rush second baseman Jason Serrano hit a 2-run home run, which helped his team go on to win.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Asheville manager Pete McGowan. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
