Bandits Win Thriller, 8-7
|
The Bend Bandits stopped the Montreal Mavericks, 8-7, behind an impressive performance from Keitaro Sakai. The five-time All-Star made life miserable for Montreal pitching. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Marcus Townson got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 4 hits in 2 innings. The win gives Bend a record of 5-5.
In the bottom of the ninth, with no one out and the game tied, 7-7, designated hitter Pete Farmer won it for Bend. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Farmer hit a 2-2 fastball from Daniel Daugherty for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 8-7 win.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Sakai said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
