Rams Hold Off Pineapples, 6-5
|
Jason Russell was a major contributor to the 6-5 Indianapolis win over Hawaii. The Rams shortstop was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Ken Williams, the winning pitcher, is now 8-3. He went 7.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, while fanning 7 and walking 2. Indianapolis, at 51-36, is 5½ games up in the Syndicate League Central.
The Rams got an important contribution from left fielder Carlos Sierra, who in the bottom of the fifth hit a fastball into left for a 3-run home run. It was his 17th home run of the season and put the Rams ahead, 5-1.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Indianapolis manager Bryan Gryka.
